We welcome back our Sunday Author Talk program with a visit by local resident Michael G. Garber, author of the recently released My Melancholy Baby: The First Ballads of the Great American Songbook. The book is a detailed biography of ten of the most enduring American popular love ballads – songs that shaped the music industry and the lives of ordinary people. Michael titled his book after the 1911 song “My Melancholy Baby,” and he will focus on it for this talk. A book signing will follow his presentation.
Michael lectures on the performing arts, film, and media, and is a specialist in Tin Pan Alley and the American musical on stage and screen. He did the final proofing and indexing for the book in England, where he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Winchester. He got “stuck” there by the pandemic and has happily returned to the USA just in time for the release of this book – hot off the press!
Space is limited; please register below. If the program is full, you can email the Library and asked to be placed on the wait list, in case of cancellations. [email protected]
