Knowing the difference between an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis can help you save a life.
Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, in partnership with the Lewisboro Library, presents this workshop on severe allergic reactions vs anaphylaxis, and how to recognize and treat before professional help arrives.
Anaphylaxis is an acute onset life-threatening medical emergency – recognizing it and acting are important to prevent serious shock and even death. Learn the difference between a local allergic reaction and systemic anaphylactic shock.
You will learn:
– the signs and symptoms of a non-life-threatening allergic reaction
– the signs and symptoms of anaphylactic shock
– the different ways that anaphylactic shock can manifest, and the risk factors that make somebody more likely to experience anaphylaxis.
– how to identify triggers causing severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis, and what can be done to desensitize the body to these triggers
– when to call 911 and administer epinephrine autoinjector (EpiPen) if you have one on hand
– how to use different epinephrine autoinjectors with hands-on trainer devices.
