Our afternoon film series continues with a screening of Nickel Boys.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead, Nickel Boys chronicles the powerful friendship between two young African-American boys in 1960s Florida, who are sent to Nickel Academy, an abusive reform school. The book was inspired by the Dozier School for Boys, a now-closed Florida reform school notorious for its abusive treatment of students.
Nickel Boys was nominated for Best Motion Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
