DESCRIPTION:This informational session is to update community members on changes to their energy supply. Representatives from Westchester Power and Sustainable Westchester will be discussing the details of the upcoming contract for NYSEG rates\, which starts December 1\, 2023. They will present the details of the new contract\, including the supplier and rates\, and welcome questions the community may have on how to read their bill and energy related questions. \nWestchester Power is a community-based bulk energy purchasing program designed to control costs and increase the use of renewable energy in Westchester County. It was initiated and implemented by Sustainable Westchester Inc\, on behalf of member municipalities that have chosen to participate in the program. The program was established in 2016 and includes 29 municipalities throughout Westchester County who buy their electricity in bulk to provide a competitive\, fixed rate. The program provides two supply options: 100% Renewable Supply\, where the entire electricity supply is matched by New York State qualified hydropower Renewable Energy Certificates\, and a Standard Supply\, where the electricity supply is a mixture of fossil fuels\, nuclear\, and some renewable energy. DESCRIPTION:The Library is hosting two in-person workshops this summer for individuals caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease\, as a way for caregivers to learn and share experiences. This second one deals with responding to dementia-related behavior. \nDuring the middle stage of dementia\, the person with the disease often starts to exhibit new behaviors that can be confusing for a caregiver. These behaviors are actually a form of communication\, and are essential to understanding the needs of the person with dementia. This program helps identify common triggers for common behaviors associated with dementia and learn strategies for addressing these behaviors. \nPresented by the The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter. SUMMARY:Robert Frost Poems of Summer: Reading & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:A close look at two short poems (“Hyla Brook” and “The Oven Bird”) set in summer that illustrate Frost’s deep knowledge and probing response to our ever changing natural world. If time allows\, we will also consider Frost’s “A Time to Talk.” \nTo start us off\, we will look at Shakespeare’s treatment of this theme in Sonnet 13: “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” \nThis session will be geared toward discussion\, and everyone is encouraged to take part.  The library will provide copies of the poems. \nThe program will be led by David Sanders\, a retired Professor of English and resident of South Salem since January 2021. \nSpace is limited\, please register below.
