DESCRIPTION:E.G. Scott is the pen name of writing partners Greg Wands and Elizabeth Keenan. Together they have written three novels; The Woman Inside\, In Case of Emergency and The Rule of Three. Their first book\,The Woman Inside\, was an international bestseller that has been translated into twelve languages\, and is in development for television with Blumhouse Productions. \nGreg\, who writes for both the page and screen\, will talk about the pair’s latest novel\, The Rule of Three\, which was released in August.  He will also autograph copies of the book\, which will be available for sale courtesy of Books on the Common. \nThe Rule of Three: Once a week\, three women get together for book club in Kingsland\, a private\, gated community. SUMMARY:Outdoor Book Discussion: "Braiding Sweetgrass"
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day\, Lewisboro Land Trust and Lewisboro Library are pleased to co-host a book discussion about the bestselling book\, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom\, Scientific Knowledge and the Teaching of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The discussion will be held outdoors at the Mount Holly Preserve.* \nKimmerer\, a botanist and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation\, draws on her life as an indigenous scientist\, mother\, and woman to examine modern botany and environmentalism through the lens of the traditions and cultures of the Indigenous peoples of North America. Through a series of personal reflections\, the author explores the connection between living things and human efforts to cultivate a more sustainable world. Reading the book is recommended\, but not required for this discussion. \nPhysical copies of “Braiding Sweetgrass” are available at the Library\, or as a free eBook or audiobook on Hoopla and Libby\, using your library card. \nSpace is limited and registration is required HERE. \n* We will meet at the Mount Holly Preserve entrance located diagonally across from 21 Mount Holly Road EAST\, Katonah and then walk together for about a quarter mile to a woodland clearing. There are a few log seats available in the clearing\, but attendees can also bring their own seat — a blanket\, cushion\, beach chair\, camp chair — or any other props for additional comfort during the seated discussion. Steady rain or other inclement weather will move the discussion to the Library – this will be communicated to registrants by email. \nFor more information about the preserve\, visit https://lewisborolandtrust.org/indian-brook-assemblage.

SUMMARY:(Virtual) Navigating College Admissions Successfully
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. For Teens & Parents.\n \nWe are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how COVID-19 has changed the college admissions landscape and how it will affect Juniors\, Sophomores and Freshmen. \nThe recent college admissions cycle was the most competitive to date. With most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students\, many schools had record numbers of applicants. Record high numbers of applications result in record low acceptance rates which is what most popular colleges and universities experienced this past admissions cycle. \nWe will discuss current college admissions trends\, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child\, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this school year productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. \nWe’ll examine the holistic admissions review process\, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants\, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. \nWe will also discuss the importance of community service\, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. This program is recommended for parents and their high school teens. \nThe presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper\, partners at Stand Out For College\, LLC. \nPlease register HERE. \nIf you are unable to participate that night\, seminars will also take place October 25 and November 16.
