SUMMARY:(Virtual) Navigating College Admissions Successfully and the Importance of Community Service
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. For Teens & Parents.\n \nWe are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how COVID-19 has changed the college admissions landscape and how it will affect Juniors\, Sophomores and Freshmen. \nThis recent college admissions cycle has turned out to be the most competitive to date. As most colleges go test-optional and increase their virtual outreach to high school students\, a record number of candidates are applying. With record high numbers of applications come record low acceptance rates at many popular colleges and universities. \nAdmissions officers are giving greater consideration to extracurricular activities\, since most students will have had a year or more of grades earned during remote/hybrid learning\, which will carry less weight when applications are reviewed. With that in mind\, we will discuss the importance of community service\, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and an opportunity to showcase a student’s character\, especially during these challenging times. \nThe presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper\, partners at Stand Out For College\, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com) \nPlease RSVP to ron@standoutforcollege.com.  You will receive a private invitation with a Zoom link in reply.

SUMMARY:Middle Reads: "The Unteachables"
DESCRIPTION:For Teens in Grades 6 – 8. Will meet in person. \nJoin us for monthly book discussions and socializing – and ice cream! Books are available for pickup at the Library. \nThe book selection for February 8 is The Unteachables\, by Gordon Korman. The Unteachables are a notorious class of misfits\, delinquents\, and academic train wrecks. There is Aldo\, with anger management issues; Parker\, who can’t read; Kiana\, who doesn’t even belong in this class—or any class; and Elaine (rhymes with pain). The Unteachables have been removed from the student body and isolated in room 117. Their teacher is Mr. Zachary Kermit\, the most burned-out teacher in all of Greenwich. Over the course of a school year\, though\, room 117 will experience mayhem\, destruction—and maybe even a shot at redemption. \nPlease register below. If you would prefer a Zoom link\, please contact Jane Rothschild at jrothschild@wlsmail.org.

SUMMARY:(Virtual) How to Successfully Navigate College Admissions in 2022
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nThis virtual presentation will help families understand how COVID-19 has changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors\, Sophomores and Freshmen. \nThe recent college admissions cycle is highly competitive due to two factors: most colleges went test-optional due to the pandemic and colleges increased their outreach to high school students resulting in a record number of candidates applying. These record high numbers of applications resulted in record low acceptance rates. \nDiscover the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child and other actions steps to take this spring for a smoother college admissions process. Learn what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants\, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. \nWe will also discuss the importance of community service\, how it provides personal growth and an opportunity to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others\, especially during these challenging times. \nThe presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper\, partners at Stand Out For College\, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com) Please RSVP to ron@standoutforcollege.com.  You will receive a private invitation with a Zoom link in reply.
