SUMMARY:Citizen Emergency Preparedness Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Be prepared for emergencies and disasters! September is National Preparedness Month. This one-hour program\, led by members of the National Guard\, will go over the steps you need to take to prepare for an emergency.\n \nThe Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster\, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any natural or man-made disaster\, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. \nEach family that attends will receive one Preparedness Kit shown below (provided at least 45 people register). \n \nPrior to the presentation\, the Lewisboro Office of Emergency Management will be presenting an award to the Lewisboro Regional Emergency Management Person of the Year. \nSpace is limited to 65 people and registration is required by September 26.  Please register via the NY State Citizen Preparedness site HERE.

DESCRIPTION:The final product is divine\, and the audience walks away deeply satisfied.  However\, behind the scenes\, what do you think goes on in the lives of singers\, players\, conductors\, managers\, coaches\, concert hall staff and publicists in the weeks and months leading up to the concert? It is far from smooth sailing. The answers will surprise and intrigue you. \nThis “insider’s view” will be presented by Dr. Harold Rosenbaum\, the award-winning founder and conductor of the distinguished professional choir The New York Virtuoso Singers and celebrated volunteer choir The Canticum Novum Singers.  The choirs have performed many times on Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series and in concerts with notables including James Galway\, Tony Bennett\, Licia Albanese\, Marianne Faithful and The Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society.  Over the years\, Rosenbaum has collaborated with hundreds of notable contemporary composers\, with highlights including concerts with the legendary Oscar-winning film composer Ennio Morricone. \nHarold is also involved with the “Sounds Choral” listening program on www.wwfm.org. DESCRIPTION:Invasive species present one of the greatest challenges to New York’s biodiversity as well as to outdoor recreational and horticultural pursuits. In this presentation\, you’ll learn how to plug into the Lower Hudson Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (LH PRISM) – a vibrant network of partners and volunteers who collaborate to mitigate the harmful impacts of invasive species and foster healthy ecosystems. Topics include: What defines an invasive species and what are their main impacts on ecosystem structure and function? How can you make smart decisions on what types of plants to purchase for your yard? What are the best practices for managing invasive species on both your own property and in our region’s parks? How can you get involved in community projects and feel empowered to make a difference?\nThis program will be presented by Brent Boscarino\, Ph.D.\, Director of Land Stewardship at the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and Lead Coordinator of the Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management. SUMMARY:Foraging Walk with Heather Flournoy: Wild Mushrooms - This Program is Full
DESCRIPTION:Join local foraging expert Heather Flournoy at Marian Yarrow Preserve for a fall walk\, learning which local mushrooms she searches for to use as food\, medicine or art material. We’ll begin with an introduction to mushroom foraging\, sustainability\, risks and dependable resources\, then walk the preserve looking at fungi habitats\, mushrooms\, host trees and discuss the impact of changing climate and plants on our fungi. Please dress appropriately for weather\, mud\, and tick bite prevention. The walk will proceed if there is a light rain. \nHeather has been teaching foraging and teaching in the greater NYC area since 2018 when she founded Wild Nearby to share her love of wild foods\, herbalism and healing with others. She founded Wild Roots Project\, an initiative of the nonprofit D.I.G. Farm in 2023 to collaborate with more foragers\, herbalists and farmers and to cultivate community. She’ll be joined by Lisa Solomon\, a local mushroom hunter and photographer\, and member of C.O.M.A.\, our local mycology association. \nMarian Yarrow Preserve is located on the East side of Mt. Holly Rd.\, 0.3 miles south of Todd Rd. and 0.3 miles north of Holly Hill Lane. Please park in the small parking lot and on the east side of the street\, along the preserve. SUMMARY:South Salem Ghost Walk
DESCRIPTION:Town historian Maureen Koehl will lead a “Ghost Walk\,” a one-hour walking tour of local sites with a haunted history. The tour takes place on the roads surrounding the Library\, where we will encounter some historic “ghosts” along the way!  \nThrill seekers and history buffs should meet at the Library promptly at 7 pm – armed with flashlights (and reflective vests if you have them.)
