SUMMARY:Virtual Tour of MoMA Exhibit "Never Alone: Video Games & Other Interactive Design"
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nJoin us online for a look at the exhibit Never Alone: Video Games and Other Interactive Design at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. It includes a recorded video tour of the exhibit given by its curators followed by a Q&A session with a MoMA guide. \nWe spend a huge portion of our lives in digital worlds. The interfaces we use to access them – from Zoom to FaceTime\, WhatsApp to Fortnite – both connect and separate us\, and shape the way we behave and perceive others. This exhibition brings together notable examples of interaction design\, the points of contact between objects and people. These works remind us that while the digital realm has different rules of engagement\, interaction design can transform our behaviors – from the way we experience and move our bodies to the ways we conceive of space\, time\, and relationships. \nPlease see the meeting link below to join the program. \nTopic: MoMA Virtual Exhibition Tour – Never Alone: Video Games And Other Interactive Design\nTime: Sep 19\, 2023 05:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/89527097988?pwd=ZzVHRlpGUGtEcEE2KzM5TUNRRjgvUT09 \nMeeting ID: 895 2709 7988\nPasscode: splMoMA

SUMMARY:(Virtual) Navigating College Admissions Successfully in 2023
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nWe are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how the lingering effects from the pandemic have changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors\, Sophomores and Freshmen. \nLast year\, with most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students\, many schools had record numbers of applicants. Record high numbers of applications result in record low acceptance rates which is what most popular colleges and universities experienced this past admissions cycle. \nWe will discuss current college admissions trends\, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child\, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this fall productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. \nWe’ll examine the holistic admissions review process\, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants\, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. \nWe will also discuss the importance of community service\, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. This program is recommended for parents and their high school teens. \nThe presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper\, partners at Stand Out For College\, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com) \n  \nRegister for your Zoom link HERE. The same program will also be offered on October 17.

SUMMARY:(Virtual) How to Use Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom \nArtificial intelligence is the ability of machines to perform tasks that are typically associated with human intelligence\, such as learning and problem-solving. Chatbots and virtual assistants based on generative AI (eg. Siri) can rely on Natural Language Processing to improve efficiency. Generative systems such as ChatGPT\, Bard\, and DALL-E are quickly becoming ubiquitous in modern discourse\, and have raised many complicated questions about their use and misuse. What does this mean for you\, and how can you make use of them? This presentation will provide an overview of the capabilities and issues surrounding these services\, as well as an interactive forum to highlight what they can or cannot (and\, perhaps\, should or should not) be used for. \nPresented by Jacob Adler\, the Metadata and Cataloging Librarian at the Bronx Community College Library. He is a member of the BCC working group investigating the use and potentiality of generative systems such as ChatGPT and Bard\, and is the author of a subject guide on Generative Systems accessible via the BCC Library website. \nPlease register for the Zoom link HERE.
