SUMMARY:Author Talk: Fiona Davis - "The Spectacular"
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to welcome back New York Times bestselling author Fiona Davis\, to talk about her latest novel The Spectacular. Fiona has written six historical fiction novels\, set in iconic New York City landmarks\, which showcase the stories behind the famous buildings at key moments in history through the eyes of female characters. Her previous bestsellers include The Lions of Fifth Avenue\, set at the New York Public Library\, and The Magnolia Palace set at the Frick Collection. \nIn The Spectacular\, Fiona Davis invites readers behind the shimmering gold curtain of one of the most famous stages in the world\, Radio City Music Hall\, as a talented young dancer in the 1950s defies society’s (and her family’s) expectations when she joins the glamorous precision-dancing troupe\, the Rockettes. At the same time\, a mysterious madman is terrorizing New York City by leaving explosives in some of the Big Apple’s busiest locations; Radio City among them. \nFiona’s talk will be followed by a book signing. Our thanks to Ridgefield’s Books on the Common\, which will be providing books for sale at this event. \nSpace is limited. Please register below.

SUMMARY:Community Safety Series: Stop the Bleed
DESCRIPTION:For Adults and Teens ages 15 and older.\n\n\nAccidents happen in an instant\, and getting help for the wounded in a timely manner is critical. STOP THE BLEED is the result of a collaborative effort led by the American College of Surgeons Committee to bring knowledge of bleeding control to the public\, essentially to train bystanders to take life-saving action if needed until professional help arrives. The skills you learn in this 90 minute class can help save a life!\n\n\nThe Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LVAC) is sponsoring and leading this class\, which will instruct community members in the proper methods to control active bleeding in an emergency situation using tourniquets\, applying direct pressure and wound packing.\n\n\nThis class is part of a Community Safety Series coordinated by the Lewisboro Library\, LVAC\, and the Town’s Emergency Management Committee. Additional safety workshops will be offered in the fall.\n\n\nSpace is limited; please register below.

SUMMARY:Virtual Tour of MoMA Exhibit "Never Alone: Video Games & Other Interactive Design"
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nJoin us online for a look at the exhibit Never Alone: Video Games and Other Interactive Design at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. It includes a recorded video tour of the exhibit given by its curators followed by a Q&A session with a MoMA guide. \nWe spend a huge portion of our lives in digital worlds. The interfaces we use to access them – from Zoom to FaceTime\, WhatsApp to Fortnite – both connect and separate us\, and shape the way we behave and perceive others. This exhibition brings together notable examples of interaction design\, the points of contact between objects and people. These works remind us that while the digital realm has different rules of engagement\, interaction design can transform our behaviors – from the way we experience and move our bodies to the ways we conceive of space\, time\, and relationships. \nPlease see the meeting link below to join the program. \nTopic: MoMA Virtual Exhibition Tour – Never Alone: Video Games And Other Interactive Design\nTime: Sep 19\, 2023 05:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/89527097988?pwd=ZzVHRlpGUGtEcEE2KzM5TUNRRjgvUT09 \nMeeting ID: 895 2709 7988\nPasscode: splMoMA

SUMMARY:(Virtual) Navigating College Admissions Successfully in 2023
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nWe are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how the lingering effects from the pandemic have changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors\, Sophomores and Freshmen. \nLast year\, with most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students\, many schools had record numbers of applicants. Record high numbers of applications result in record low acceptance rates which is what most popular colleges and universities experienced this past admissions cycle. \nWe will discuss current college admissions trends\, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child\, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this fall productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. \nWe’ll examine the holistic admissions review process\, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants\, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. \nWe will also discuss the importance of community service\, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. This program is recommended for parents and their high school teens. \nThe presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper\, partners at Stand Out For College\, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com) \n  \nRegister for your Zoom link HERE. The same program will also be offered on October 17.
