DESCRIPTION:This is a 5-6 hour Defensive Driving course. \nCompletion of the course results in a ten percent liability insurance discount* to the principal operator as well as a maximum of four points off the driver’s violation record. Please note: this does not qualify as the defensive driving course required for new teen drivers. \nSpace is limited. Please register below and then pay in person at the Library to hold your reservation. The fee is $45; seniors age 65 and over pay $35. Check should be made payable to John Coxen. If registration is full\, please email the Library at lewisborolibrary@gmail.com to be placed on the wait list. \nThere will be a 30-minute lunch break\, so be sure to bring a bag lunch. \n\n* All insurance companies operating or licensed to operate in NYS must accept the certificate for the discount.

DESCRIPTION:This presentation is to help families of high school juniors\, sophomores and freshmen better understand the college admissions process and how to successfully navigate the changing landscape. \nWe will discuss current college admissions trends\, admissions strategies\, the changing test-optional environment\, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit\, a timeline and other action steps to make this fall productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. \nWe’ll examine the holistic admissions review process\, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. \nWe will also discuss the importance of community service\, how it can provide an opportunity for meaningful experiences\, personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character including how the student has given back and helped others. \nThis program is recommended for parents and their high school teens and is a detailed and strategic overview of what students should focus on for a successful college admissions process and how to reduce the stress around it. \nThe presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper\, partners at Stand Out For College\, LLC. SUMMARY:Lewisboro Seniors Book Group: "The Frozen River"
DESCRIPTION:Our group meets in person on (usually) the third Wednesday of the month during the Lewisboro Senior Adults meeting at the Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church. The church is located at 9 Shady Lane\, South Salem All seniors are welcome! \nThis month the group will be discussing The Frozen River\, by Ariel Lawhon. This gripping historical mystery is inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard\, a renowned 18th-century midwife who investigates a shocking murder that unhinges her small community. \nThe Library will provide copies of the book to all participants. DESCRIPTION:The Lewisboro Library Book Group meets at the Library on the last Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. \nThis month the group will be discussing the Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane. The novel is set in Boston in summer 1974\, during the tense days approaching the start of the school year at the height of the Boston busing crisis\, when the city’s desegregation of its public schools exploded in violence. \nBooks are available through the Westchester Library System and copies are often ordered in advance for members to pick up at the Library. SUMMARY:Citizen Emergency Preparedness Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Be prepared for emergencies and disasters! September is National Preparedness Month. This one-hour program\, led by members of the National Guard\, will go over the steps you need to take to prepare for an emergency.\n \nThe Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster\, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any natural or man-made disaster\, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. \nEach family that attends will receive one Preparedness Kit shown below (provided at least 45 people register). \n \nPrior to the presentation\, the Lewisboro Office of Emergency Management will be presenting an award to the Lewisboro Regional Emergency Management Person of the Year. \nSpace is limited to 65 people and registration is required by September 26.  Please register via the NY State Citizen Preparedness site HERE.
