SUMMARY:(Virtual) How to Use Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom \nArtificial intelligence is the ability of machines to perform tasks that are typically associated with human intelligence\, such as learning and problem-solving. Chatbots and virtual assistants based on generative AI (eg. Siri) can rely on Natural Language Processing to improve efficiency. Generative systems such as ChatGPT\, Bard\, and DALL-E are quickly becoming ubiquitous in modern discourse\, and have raised many complicated questions about their use and misuse. What does this mean for you\, and how can you make use of them? This presentation will provide an overview of the capabilities and issues surrounding these services\, as well as an interactive forum to highlight what they can or cannot (and\, perhaps\, should or should not) be used for. \nPresented by Jacob Adler\, the Metadata and Cataloging Librarian at the Bronx Community College Library. He is a member of the BCC working group investigating the use and potentiality of generative systems such as ChatGPT and Bard\, and is the author of a subject guide on Generative Systems accessible via the BCC Library website. \nPlease register for the Zoom link HERE.

SUMMARY:Author Panel: From Writing to Publishing
DESCRIPTION:Come hear a panel of newly-published authors discuss the writing and publishing process. All four went to Sarah Lawrence College for their MFAs\, have lived in Westchester at some point\, and are part of a writing group that has been together for nearly 20 years. Coincidentally\, they all also had books published within the last 12 months! \nJimin Han – is a Lewisboro resident and author of The Apology\, an inter-generational saga about a pampered and defiant South Korean matriarch thrust into the afterlife\, from which she seeks a second chance to make amends and fight off the curse that could devastate generations to come. \nMarcia Bradley – is the author of The Home for Wayward Girls\, a harrowing and heartfelt novel about a young girl growing up in the 1990s\, who escapes her abusive parents – and the “ranch” they ran for “bad” girls – and becomes an advocate for teen runaways. \nKate Brandt – is the author of Hope for the Worst\, which traces a young woman’s involvement with a self-proclaimed American Buddhist teacher\, and the way her life falls apart as a result. It is a book about being in love\, despair\, magic\, and the redemption of female friendship. \nPatricia Dunn – AKA T.M. Dunn\, Patricia is the author of Her Father’s Daughter\, a suspenseful thriller about a serial killer on the loose\, a love affair\, a desperate police investigation and the journey into a family’s twisted secrets. \nAfter the panel\, the authors will autograph copies of their books\, which will be available for sale courtesy of Books on the Common. \nPlease register below.

SUMMARY:"It's a Wonderful Life" - Live!
DESCRIPTION:Come see “It’s a Wonderful Life” as a live radio play! The beloved holiday classic\, immortalized on film by James Stewart and Donna Reed\, is brought to life in a whole new way by Apple Tree Productions. \nThe stage play is a one-hour adaptation by Joe Landry\, written to replicate a live radio show circa 1946\, with the cast gathered around microphones and live sound effects. This production is suitable for all ages. \nIn lieu of an admission fee\, we ask that attendees bring an item to donate to our collection box for the Community Center of Northern Westchester’s “Share the Warmth” Drive. The Community Center is seeking donations of new hats\, gloves\, socks and warm cozy blankets for children ages infant through 18 years. Let’s rally our community like the residents of Bedford Falls rally around George Bailey! \nSpeaking of rallying our community – if you know a senior who doesn’t drive at night\, but who might want to attend\, offer to give them a ride to the show! \nSpace is limited; please register below.
