DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nOur Annual Meeting’s guest speaker this year is Westchester resident David Michaelis. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Eleanor\, a biography of Eleanor Roosevelt published in October of 2020. As the nation’s longest serving First Lady\, she was known as a voice for the voiceless and a proponent of international human rights. \nDavid Michaelis grew up in Cambridge\, Mass.\, and Washington\, D. C.\, was educated at Concord Academy and Princeton University. In addition to Eleanor\, he is also the author of several nonfiction books\, as well as the critically acclaimed bestsellers N. C. Wyeth and Schulz and Peanuts. \nHis presentation will be preceded by a short business meeting. \nPlease register HERE to receive your Zoom link.

SUMMARY:(Virtual) Author Talk with Tom Dunne "Notes from the Fireground"
DESCRIPTION:Via Zoom. \nRetired FDNY Deputy Chief Tom Dunne discusses his book “Notes from the Fireground: Memoir of a New York Firefighter.” \nIn a 33 year career with the New York City Fire Department\, Tom Dunne fought hundreds of fires\, survived near death incidents and was witness to multiple tragedies. He was one of the responders to the Happy Lands Social Club fire in the Bronx\, a disaster of historical proportions where 87 people died. He worked through Hurricane Sandy\, which flooded and devastated whole sections of New York City. Most notably\, Chief Dunne worked for months supervising rescue and recovery operations following the World Trade Center terrorist attack. He saw how people in crisis lived and survived and how the firefighters who served them worked and bonded. His no-holds barred memoir provides an honest account of an occupation that outsiders seldom get to see. \nPlease register HERE for your Zoom link. The meeting link is sent right away and comes directly from Zoom. If you don’t receive it\, please check your spam email.
