DESCRIPTION:Want to help support the Library? \nThe Lewisboro Library Fair returns this year on Saturday\, September 18 at Onatru Farm. \nThe Book Sale and Attic Treasures Sale are the most popular events at the Library Fair. Donations of gently-used\, high-quality books and items for the Attic Treasures Sale are accepted on Donation Days\, Saturday August 14\, 21 and 28. Donations can be dropped off at Onatru Farm from 9 am to 1 pm on these days only. Onatru Farm is located at 99 Elmwood Road in South Salem. Volunteers will be there to accept donations on these dates and times only\, so please do not leave unattended items outside Onatru (or the Library) at any other time. \nRemember\, the Library Fair is our biggest fundraiser to keep the Library running. We make the most money by offering clean\, high-quality\, gently-used items. While sorting items to donate\, ask yourself\, “Would I or a family member buy this?” If the answer is no\, then we probably can’t sell it! \nClick HERE for more information on Donation Days\, including a handy checklist of items we DO and Do Not take. SUMMARY:Author Talk: "My Melancholy Baby" with Michael G. Garber
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back our Sunday Author Talk program with a visit by local resident Michael G. Garber\, author of the recently released My Melancholy Baby: The First Ballads of the Great American Songbook. The book is a detailed biography of ten of the most enduring American popular love ballads – songs that shaped the music industry and the lives of ordinary people. Michael titled his book after the 1911 song “My Melancholy Baby\,” and he will focus on it for this talk.  A book signing will follow his presentation. \nMichael lectures on the performing arts\, film\, and media\, and is a specialist in Tin Pan Alley and the American musical on stage and screen.  He did the final proofing and indexing for the book in England\, where he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Winchester.  He got “stuck” there by the pandemic and has happily returned to the USA just in time for the release of this book – hot off the press! \nSpace is limited; please register below. DESCRIPTION:The Lewisboro Garden Club is hosting this presentation by landscape architect Lisa Turoczi\, owner of Earth Tones Native Plant Nursery in Woodbury CT.\n\n\n\n\n\nLisa has worked in the Landscape Design business for nearly 20 years. After finding it difficult to source native plant material\, she and her husband Kyle created their own Native Plant Nursery. Most of the plant material offered at the nursery has been grown from locally collected seed sources.  \nEarth Tones\, LLC is a 100% native plant nursery that offers grasses\, ferns\, perennials\, shrubs and trees that are native to New England. They also provide landscape design\, installation\, and consultation services as well as storm water management and wetland enhancements\, all with a focus on environmentally sound practices.  \n\n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited and registration is required. For Teens & Parents.\n \nWe are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how COVID-19 has changed the college admissions landscape and how it will affect Juniors\, Sophomores and Freshmen. \nThis recent college admissions cycle has turned out to be the most competitive to date. As most colleges go test-optional and increase their virtual outreach to high school students\, a record number of candidates are applying. With record high numbers of applications come record low acceptance rates at many popular colleges and universities. \nAdmissions officers are giving greater consideration to extracurricular activities\, since most students will have had a year or more of grades earned during remote/hybrid learning\, which will carry less weight when applications are reviewed.
