DESCRIPTION:Presented by Town Historian Maureen Koehl\, in-person at the Library. \nWhat or where exactly is The Oblong? Get the facts and background on this disputed area of land delineated as 20 miles east of the Hudson River and extending from Long Island Sound to the Massachusetts border. It includes land traded between the New York and Connecticut colonies beginning in the 18th century and finalized in the 20th century. What was it like to be traded back and forth between colonies? What part of Lewisboro was included in the Disputed Lands? Which colony was the winner? This program will try to answer some of these questions  – and maybe elicit new ones. \nSpace is limited and registration is required. Please register below. DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss our area’s premiere showing of this new documentary film! \n\n\nThe introduction\, spread\, and management of invasive species is heavily influenced by the actions of citizens who live\, work\, and recreate on NY’s public and private lands and waterways. Education and outreach about invasive species increases awareness and knowledge\, which are necessary precursors to behavior changes that could reduce risks throughout the State. \n\n\n\n\n\n“Uninvited: The Spread of Invasive Species” is an engaging one-hour documentary which focuses on invasive species and highlights those that are threatening our environment and economy\, while also showing innovative ways of combating these threats through the NYS Department of Conservation’s collaborative work with its partners. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Brent Boscarino\, PhD\, Coordinator\, Lower Hudson Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management. \n\nPresented by the Lewisboro Land Trust\, the Lewisboro Garden Club and the Lewisboro Library. \nDue to Covid precautions\, space will be limited to allow for social distancing and participants are required to wear masks. Her remarkable story spans the historic period from the marches of Dr. King to the election of Barack Obama – her great contribution is the thread which connects the two. Under the leadership of Reverend Jackson\, the months that Alice and her “ordinary people” spent picketing led to real change. It was through her Political Education class that Alice had her most significant impact. Over a four year period\, thousands were trained to work in independent political campaigns. \nJoin documentarian Craig Dudnick as he discusses the film and gives us an overview of the Civil Rights Movement as well as Alice’s role in bringing politics to the Movement. \nAlice’s Ordinary People is available free on Kanopy\, the Library’s streaming media service.
