SUMMARY:Flight Interrupted: Preventing Bird-Window Strikes
DESCRIPTION:An estimated 1 billion birds in North America die each year after colliding with glass – and nearly half of these strikes occur at low-rise residential buildings. What many people don’t realize is how common this problem is. The good news? These deaths are largely preventable when people take action at their own homes. \nIn Flight Interrupted: Preventing Bird-Window Strikes at Home\, Susan Fisher\, former board president at Bedford Audubon\, delivers a practical crash course in understanding why birds fly into windows\, how significant the problem really is\, and some simple\, affordable steps homeowners can take to create their own bird-friendly windows to stop these deadly strikes. \nSusan Fisher is a longtime volunteer with Bedford Audubon. Having experienced many bird-window strikes at her own home\, Susan is passionate about raising awareness of this widespread but preventable problem. \nPlease register below.

SUMMARY:Historical Miniatures: "The Battle of Ridgefield"
DESCRIPTION:For Adults and Teens \nCelebrate National Library Week (April 19 – 25) and all that the Library offers the Community! \nAre you a history buff? In celebration of the country’s 250th Anniversary\, come re-create “The Battle of Ridgefield” – in miniature! \nThe Historical Miniatures Gaming Society uses hand painted miniature figures (or toy soldiers) to re-create famous battles from history. \nThe games are challenging\, and promote teamwork\, strategic thinking\, social interaction\, and most importantly\, are just plain fun – all while learning history! \nThis session will cover “The Battle of Ridgefield.” On April 25\, 1777\, British troops landed on Compo Beach in Westport and marched north to Danbury to burn Continental Army supplies. While the American colonial regulars and militia could not reach Danbury in time\, they made a stand in nearby Ridgefield to try and stop the British from returning to their ships. \nCome be a part of this re-creation of the Battle in miniature! \nSpace is limited\, please register below.
