Celebrate National Library Week 2021 by sharing what you love about the resources and services available at Lewisboro Library. Post to Instagram, Twitter, or on the I Love Libraries Facebook page, about an e-book, audiobook, virtual storytime or program, or how your library has made a difference while you’ve been social distancing at home. Use the hashtag #MyLibraryIs. The American Library Association will gather all the entries, and one randomly selected winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card. The promotion starts Sunday, April 4 at 1 pm and ends on Saturday, April 10 at 1 pm. Don’t forget to tag your library!
The theme for National Library Week 2021, “Welcome to Your Library,” promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use their services. During the pandemic libraries like Lewisboro have been going above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their users. Whether people visit in person or virtually, we offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, multimedia content and educational programs. Want to test your knowledge of Library services? Take the “Welcome to Your Library Trivia Quiz” https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScVc1dPiJBXdArGoxNxpTNjo1Je0Mohb3bwhGUuC1IVNVp_yA/viewform
Everyone who finishes the quiz will be entered into a drawing for a gift card from Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shoppe.
Show your appreciation for library staff by nominating someone for the Submit a Star program, which recognizes library employees nationwide for their hard work.
The Lewisboro Library is helping readers embrace humor to reduce stress together during the next Big Library Read, the world’s largest digital book club. From April 5-19, readers can learn stress-managing techniques by reading the ebook The Art of Taking It Easy, by psychologist and stand-up comedian Brian King. Library patrons can borrow the ebook without waiting by visiting https://westchester.overdrive.com/ or downloading the Libby app. Readers can then discuss online at https://biglibraryread.com/join-the-discussion//.
Readers can also join a LIVE virtual discussion with Dr. King on April 13 at 1 pm. Register for the Zoom link at https://overdrive.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_hdh8QNnoSe2cMpMhlEbN7g
In addition, readers will have a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and signed book by the author if they use #biglibraryread on social media during this time frame.
Library Giving Day: April 7, 2020
What a tumultuous year it has been since the world turned upside down, forcing our doors to close and threatening our ability to continue to serve the community …..…. but it didn’t. Thanks to my exemplary staff and the extraordinary guidance of our Board of Trustees, we adapted to this changing world by expanding our resources and continuing to meet the needs of our patrons. We offered opportunities for everyone to broaden their horizons and become their best selves through access to digital services, multimedia content and virtual educational programs. We built on the idea that our Library extends well beyond the walls of the building.
The Library has been Virtually Open the entire time, offering numerous virtual and outdoor programs, which were very well attended whether on Facebook, Zoom or outside! The number of patrons using our free digital services jumped nearly 50% this past year and we issued a record number of new library cards. We were able to continue to lend Library materials via Curbside Service and Browsing by Appointment. We are happy to report that we are opening back up to Browsing by Appointment on Monday, April 26!
The Library needs to raise the 30% of our budget not provided by the Town. Most of it is raised via our annual Library Fair. The Fair had to be put off last year, but the Board of Trustees came up with some smaller creative fundraising events. While not replacing our biggest fundraiser, these events did raise some monies to help support us through these trying times. More importantly, they generated excitement in the community and gave people something to look forward to – events like last September’s Historic Hamlet Hunt, which had families driving through the hamlets of Lewisboro in search of historic “treasures,” our Valentine’s Virtual Wine Tasting and our seasonal Pop Up Bake Sales.
We have tentatively scheduled the 2021 Lewisboro Library Fair for Saturday, September 18. Fingers crossed we will be able to have some kind of scaled back version of this popular community event.
Wednesday, April 7 is Library Giving Day. Donations are needed now.
We also rely on donations from community members and our neighbors have proved very supportive throughout this time. Since the Fair impact on our fundraising is an unknown right now, donations are needed to support ongoing expenses like payroll, building overhead and monies for all the digital services and special programs we provide. Every donation helps.
Please donate HERE.
We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday, April 26!
